2014 Kentucky Derby Winner California Chrome

California Chrome won the 140th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, California Chrome hit the lead passing the iconic Twin Spires and kicked clear to win the $2 million, 1-1/4 mile classic.

California Chrome emerged as a real contender to win the Run for the Roses after winning his four previous races, including the Santa Anita Derby, San Felipe Stakes one of the key lead-up events.

A sun-splashed crowd of 164,906, the second-largest attendance in Kentucky Derby history, watched California Chrome give jockey Victor Espinoza a second Derby victory to go with his triumph on War Emblem in 2002.
